Here it is! The David Louis Edelman writing newsletter, which arrives in your email inbox without fail, like clockwork, on the 9th day of every month. Except for the months when it comes earlier, or later. Or not at all. (I do what I can, okay?)
Things are now moving into high gear onboard the well-oiled Edelman book publicity machine, since this summer will see two of my books hit the stores. That means the newsletter and the blog are going to be stuffed more than usual with interviews, giveaways, appearances, reviews, etc. If you were looking for the perfect time to tell your friends and neighbors about Infoquake and MultiReal, I invite you to go ahead and click that "Forward" button on your email client...
And now, the book news.
Mass Market Version of Infoquake
In Stores This Month.
The breathtakingly beautiful mass market paperback version of Infoquake, published by Solaris Books, is out in stores this month. Which means the book will be easier to find for the Amazon-averse. Just look for the purple cover and the word INFOQUAKE in 3000-point type readable from across the parking lot. For those who already own the Pyr trade paperback, there are a couple hundred small text changes and corrections in the mass market edition. Nothing you're likely to notice. But you do also get the cover that matches with the upcoming MultiReal trade paperback.
MultiReal: The First Reviews Are In.
The venerable Publishers Weekly starts off by calling MultiReal “a sly variation on the traditional cyberpunk novel,” and then says that “Edelman brings fresh air to the technological thriller” and “MultiReal itself is firmly established as one of the most fascinating singularity technologies in years.” Which makes me feel quite happy.
Meanwhile, science fiction reviewer par excellence Don D’Ammassa has this to say about MultiReal in the review on the Critical Mass website: “I suppose you could call this cyberpunk because it’s very much about the interface between people and technology, but it’s also a very perceptive speculative look at how the human potential might be enhanced, or crippled, by its own creations. I look forward to the third book in the trilogy.” So do I, Don, so do I...
MultiReal Giveaway on Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist.
Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist, the fine SF review website that brought you the recent Infoquake giveaway — not to mention the review calling said book “one of the very best science fiction debuts I have ever read” — is now giving away three copies of MultiReal
. They’re even giving away free copies of Infoquake to any winner that doesn’t already own it. Go! Enter! Encourage Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist to continue paying inappropriately large amounts of attention to me.
Infoquake and MultiReal:
Your Readercon Homework.
If you’re planning on attending the Boston-area Readercon convention this July 17-20, you now have your first homework assignment. The con staff has chosen Infoquake and MultiReal as part of its “recommended reading list” for the con. They’ve also invited me to deliver a speech at the con on “How I Wrote Infoquake and MultiReal.”
Upcoming Appearances.
Readercon — July 17-20 in Burlington, MA
Worldcon — August 6-10 in Denver, CO
(Unfortunately, the pending arrival this fall of two little Edelmans will mean I'm not going to be making any appearances after August for a while...)
For those interested in voting for the Hugo and Campbell Awards this year, here’s your reminder that ballots are due July 7. Here's the online ballot. You might consider, well, er, lil’ ol’ me for the Campbell Award. (But not before you check out my fellow nominees Joe Abercrombie, Jon Armstrong
, David Anthony Durham, Mary Robinette Kowal, and Scott Lynch. And remember, you're not limited to just voting for one person.)
Next month: a little ol’ thing called... (drum roll please)... MultiReal.
Towards Perfection,
David Louis Edelman
